Sweetina & Lature: A Week of Fashion, Culture & Celebration in the Dominican Republic

Some weddings unfold over a single day. Sweetina and Lature’s celebration unfolded like an entire fashion story—seven days of extraordinary style, cultural tradition, family, and celebration against the tropical backdrop of Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Punta Cana. I was brought on as their fashion editorial photographer, rather than their traditional event photographer, with the intention of creating a visual narrative that felt elevated, intentional, and distinctly their own.

Throughout the week, my focus was on the fashion, the details, the movement, the architecture of each space, and the moments between the scheduled events. Each celebration became its own editorial chapter, with looks from Clodor by BCS, Brianvo Fashion, Khokee India, RNR Jewellers, Sol Auset, and Riantas Official creating an incredible visual vocabulary. From intricate jewelry and couture-inspired silhouettes to vibrant traditional looks, Sweetina and Lature approached their wedding wardrobe with the same intention and artistry that went into every other element of their celebration.

The week moved from sun-drenched beach portraits into the vibrant color and intimacy of Haldi and Mehndi, followed by the theatrical energy of the Sangeet. The wedding day brought even more transformation, from Lature’s traditional preparations and Baraat to Sweetina’s bridal entrance and the layered rituals of their ceremony. Rather than photographing these moments simply as events, I approached them as editorial compositions—looking for dramatic light, movement, gesture, texture, and the small details that make an image feel timeless.

Then came one of my favorite unexpected moments of the entire week. The afternoon before the reception, Sweetina surprised everyone by cutting her long hair into a sleek bob. After photographing her through several days of elaborate looks and traditions, seeing her completely transform her silhouette for the final night felt like the perfect editorial plot twist. The bob was modern, sophisticated, and effortlessly cool—and it gave the reception portraits an entirely new energy.

The creative team behind the week was just as incredible. @jasminehennartistry brought intricate henna artistry to the celebrations, while @svpdjs and @s.v.p.studio helped shape the energy and visual production throughout the week. @houseofglowstudio, @desire.artistry, @viahshaadicollective, @eeshajohal, @alejandrapp_07, and @yosoydaveewere all part of the creative world surrounding this celebration.

By the time we reached the final reception, Sweetina and Lature had transformed through an entire week of looks, traditions, and celebrations. The evening brought portraits, speeches, family dances, their first dance, and a packed dance floor before the night came to a dramatic close.

For me, the beauty of this wedding was never simply in documenting what happened. It was in translating the feeling of it into imagery—the grandeur, the intimacy, the fashion, the culture, the anticipation, and the fleeting moments that happen only once.

This was a wedding that felt simultaneously deeply rooted and completely contemporary. A celebration where tradition met fashion, where the Caribbean became the backdrop for an extraordinary visual story, and where every new look revealed another facet of Sweetina and Lature.
